"I am Su Bingtian and now I'm inviting all the postdoctoral fellows across China to present the world with your brilliant ideas of innovation and entrepreneurship in Foshan."

Su spoke in an invitation video that was displayed at the 30-day countdown press conference for the 1st China Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition on Oct 20.

As an associate professor at the School of Sports at Jinan University, Su Bingtian also holds a PhD.

Su recorded a time of 9.83 seconds in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics men's 100 m semi-finals event, setting a new Asian record, and is the first Asian-born sprinter to break the 10-second barrier.

The flag and logo for the competition were also unveiled on the same day.

Jointly held by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the National Committee of Postdoctoral Management, and the Foshan municipal government, the competition holds high standards and is of the largest scale of its kind since the postdoctoral system was implemented in China. It will be held at Tanzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center in Foshan from Nov 19 to 21.

The competition will have four major groups and cover eight areas such as the new generation of information technology, high-end equipment manufacturing, new materials, new energy and biomedicine.

It is estimated that 4,700 teams or projects will register for the competition and about 1,300 teams and 4,000 doctor and postdoctor holders will enter the final.
