Maoming to carry out job skills training for 80,000 people

Maoming, a city in South China's Guangdong province, plans to carry out job skills training for 80,000 people from 2020 to 2021 to enrich the skills of job seekers and increase employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, according to the information from a meeting held on April 7.

It is expected that skilled workers in Maoming will account for more than 25 percent of the number of employees in the city by the end of 2021, while over 30 percent of those will be highly skilled.

In combination with the development needs of industries such as artificial intelligence, new generation information technology, petrochemical engineering, mechanical equipment manufacturing, modern agriculture, new energy, new materials, and the marine economy, Maoming will strengthen vocational training for 8,000 people by 2021, including 100 highly skilled ones.

Vocational skills training to cultivate chefs of Guangdong cuisine, especially Maoming’s local specialties, will be carried out for 3,000 people each year by 2021. The city is also expected to establish two provincial-level training bases for chefs of Guangdong cuisine, as well as two to three employment and entrepreneurship incubation bases in the next two years.

With a view to promoting the sound development of the housekeeping service industry, Maoming will hold relevant training for more than 4,000 people each year by 2021.

The city will implement new-type apprenticeships and modern apprenticeships for enterprises, and promote in-depth cooperation between enterprises and vocational colleges to jointly train intermediate and advanced skilled talents for the Maoming’s petrochemical industry as well as the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. By the end of 2021, a total of 3,000 people will be trained under the new-type apprenticeships.

Job-transfer and job-change training will also be carried out by the city's industrial associations and leading enterprises to help companies stabilize their workforce and promote re-employment. The number of people receiving relevant trainings shall total 8,000 by 2021.

From 2020 and 2021, about 2,000 to 3,000 impoverished laborers in the city's rural areas shall be provided with job skills training each year, and will receive subsidies in accordance with relevant regulations. A total of 2,500 people will also be trained in various types of rural e-commerce each year.

The city will also organize ex-servicemen to participate in vocational skills appraisal and obtain relevant certificates, and explore the establishment of designated training bases for ex-servicemen in the next two years. It is expected that more than 90 percent of ex-servicemen in Maoming will have obtained vocational skills certificates by 2021.

Graduates of junior and senior high schools who give up further studies in Maoming will be provided with educational training by vocational colleges. It is hoped that a total of 4,500 such people will be trained by 2021.

Safe operation training will be carried out for all employees of enterprises involved in high-risk industries such as chemical engineering and mining in Maoming by 2021.

In addition, special skill trainings will be carried out for the disabled in the city. By 2021, an additional 3,000 people with disabilities in Maoming will receive relevant job skills training.
