The power unit 1 at Bohe Power Plant in Maoming was put into operation on Sept 10 after successfully completing the 168-hour full load trial.

During the trial, the power unit 1 achieved an automatic input rate of 100 percent, while the emission targets for smoke and dust, sulfur dioxide, as well as nitrogen oxide met the national ultra-low emission standards.

The operation of the power unit 1 plays an important role in meeting the power demand of Guangdong province, creating a new growth pole for the coastal economic belt in Maoming, as well as promoting the construction of the energy and heavy chemicals base in Binhai New Area in Maoming.

Bohe Power Plant is one of the efforts made by Guangdong Energy Group Co Ltd to promote the coordinated development of the regional economy and revitalize the economy of the eastern, western, as well as northern parts of Guangdong province in accordance to the provincial government's targets.

The first stage of the power plant has a total investment of 8.2 billion yuan ($1.2 billion) and includes construction of megawatt ultra-supercritical coal-fired power units.

Environmentally friendly facilities for flue gas desulfurization, denitration, dust extraction, as well as wastewater reclamation and processing were built simultaneously along with the power units.

After the normal operation of the two power units, the plant is expected to have an annual generating capacity of 12 billion kilowatt-hours and an annual output value of more than 6 billion yuan ($877.47 million), paying over 500 million yuan in local taxes.

In addition, the plant will also carry out transformation in combined heat and power generation to give full play to its social and environmental benefits. It has signed heating and gas supply agreements with many enterprises in Binhai New Area, and plans to start gas supply in 2021.
