Construction on the closure of the mid-span of the Shuidong Bay Bridge, the first cross-sea bridge in Maoming, was completed on Oct 28, which laid a solid foundation for the bridge project to be open to traffic by the end of 2020.

The Shuidong Bay Bridge project includes construction of the cross-sea bridge and connecting facilities, spanning a total length of nearly 6.61 kilometers, of which the cross-sea bridge is about 3.33 km long.

The cross-sea bridge is composed of a main bridge and two approach bridges. The main bridge is a concrete girder cable-stayed bridge with two pylons and double cable planes, spanning 628 meters in length. The two approach bridges are bridges with pre-stressed concrete box girders, with the west one being 1,145 meters long and the east one being 1,560 meters long.

The Shuidong Bay Bridge will be an important channel for connecting the eastern and western banks of the Shuidong Bay. After the project is completed, the driving time between the Nanhai area and the Danchang area in Maoming will be shortened from the current one hour duration to 10 minutes.

It will also further improve the main urban transportation network of Maoming, greatly enhance local development potential and competitiveness, as well as achieve sustainable urban development.
