Maonan celebrates Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival

Maoming's Maonan district celebrated the fourth Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival on Sept 25 to promote rural revitalization in the area.

Besides singing and dancing performances, exhibition areas that showcased Maonan's featured high-quality agricultural products were set up for the event. Tilapia and lychee wine were a festival hit among visitors.

"Our crispy tilapia is very popular, and is a Maonan local specialty," an exhibitor representative said. A citizen surnamed Wang said that the fish is so delicious that he will buy some for his family members.

Maonan's agricultural economy has made new breakthroughs this year and the output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery reached 3.41 billion yuan ($527.68 million) so far, an increase of 13.8 percent. The cultivation area of spring crops was 158,700 mu (10,580 hectares), an increase of 6.7 percent. The output value of animal husbandry was 1.84 billion yuan, an increase of 25.6 percent,and that of fishery was 175 million yuan, an increase of 2.8 percent.

In addition, Maonan has declared 12 district-level, 17 city-level and 19 provincial-level leading agricultural enterprises. There are 41 more specialized farmer cooperatives in the district than last year, and the total number amounted to 682, of which four are national demonstration cooperatives, and 18 are provincial.
