Editor's Note: Zhanjiang Party Secretary Zheng Renhao delivered a speech at the 3rd Plenary Session of the 11th Zhanjiang Municipal Committee of the CPC on August 15, 2017. Here is a summary of what he said about transport.

According to Zheng, Zhanjiang has spared no effort in pushing forward the construction of transportation infrastructure, with significant progress being made on key aviation, railway, and port projects in 2017.

The land expropriation work for the first phase of the Zhanjiang International Airport was finished three months ahead of schedule, with construction to start in October 2017. With support from the Guangdong provincial government, the airport will be upgraded from a 4C to a 4E rating, the second-highest ranking in China's five-tier airfield ranking system.

The Shenzhen-Zhanjiang High-speed Railway will begin operating in June 2018, while the Donghai Island Railway, a crucial part of west Guangdong's coastal high-speed rail project, will finish construction October 2017. Construction on the Zhanjiang West (High-speed) Railway Station is currently underway.

The Zhanjiang section of the Shantou-Zhanjiang Highway is expected to open to traffic in October 2017, and the Wuchuan feeder of the Shantou-Zhanjiang Highway is expected to make significant progress by year's end.

Meanwhile, Zhanjiang has propelled the construction of a cargo-passenger ro-ro (roll on/roll off) terminal in Xuwen Port, the Xuwen Port feeder of the Zhanjiang-Xuwen Highway, and the road to the port, which are expected to be completed by the end of October 2018.
