Zhanjiang's foreign trade rises by nearly 40% in August

The total value of Zhanjiang's exports and imports in August saw a year-on-year increase of 39.7 percent to 4.03 billion yuan ($590.11 million), according to statistics recently released by Zhanjiang Customs.

The city's export value in August was 2.19 billion yuan, an increase of 56.1 percent year-on-year, while its import value reached 1.84 billion yuan, an increase of 24.2 percent.

In the first eight months of this year, Zhanjiang had a total volume of foreign trade worth 25.47 billion yuan, up 0.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In terms of trade methods, the import and export of general trade in the first eight months of the year saw an increase of 4.5 percent to 20.06 billion yuan, making up 78.8 percent of Zhanjiang's total foreign trade. The import and export total of bonded logistics from January to August reached 2.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.5 percent. 

In terms of enterprise categories, State-owned enterprises in Zhanjiang had a total import-export volume of 8.75 billion yuan in the first eight months of this year, a 15.2 percent year-on-year increase. The imports and exports of private enterprises in Zhanjiang saw an increase of 0.5 percent to 11.81 billion yuan, making up 46.4 percent of the city's total foreign trade.

In that period, Brazil was the largest trading partner of Zhanjiang's. From January to August, the city's imports and exports to Brazil reached 4.33 billion yuan, up 1.2 percent year-on-year, while those to Australia were 3.81 billion yuan, an increase of 1.9 percent.

In the first eight months of this year, the import of aquatic products in Zhanjiang reached 2.06 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 43 percent.
