Guangdong home for largest overseas Chinese museum
The Wuyi Museum of Chinese Overseas opened to the public in Jiangmen city, Guangdong on Nov 6, 2010.
Thought as a museum with one of the most valuable collections of overseas Chinese culture, it attracts large amounts of vistors on a daily basis.
Covering a floor area of 6,000 square meters, the museum is home to 39,000 collections, one third of which are classed as national-level cultural relics.
The collections reflect the close relationship between overseas Chinese and their hometowns, as well as exploring the history of overseas Chinese entrepreneurs and increasing the understanding of overseas Chinese hometowns.
By applying the advanced audiovisuals and electronic displays, the museum vividly unveils details of the cultural relics and the history of overseas Chinese, helping visitors gain better insights into overseas Chinese culture.
Zheng Shexin, an overseas Chinese from Singapore, has made great contributions to the museum. He donated a cloth bag and a suit from his father, which was considered important cultural relics from the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-45).
"The Singapore museum has asked me to donate these items several times, but I refused. Now I feel very pleased to donate them to the Wuyi museum because this is our hometown," said Zheng.
