Guangzhou tops China with most ports

Update:2016-12-02

There is no other city in China that is home to more ports than Guangzhou.

According to the Guangdong statistics bureau, by the end of 2008 Guangzhou had 14 national first-class ports, as well as a vast array of transport links, such as Baiyun Airport, Tianhe railway passenger port, Huangpu cargo port, Nansha passenger port and Xintang passenger port.

Baiyun Airport is the first of its kind designed to be a pivot point for transport across the country and abroad with 57 international routes running through it. The airport is home to China's first large-scale automatic express distribution center -- Federal Express Asia-Pacific Transferring Center -- which opened in February 2009.

In 2007 Guangzhou Port was listed as one of the busiest in the world, processing some 340 million metric tons of cargo. The port's Nasha area was among the world's first international ports specialized in hygiene and food transportation safety.

Guangzhou has a further 12 national second-class ports and seven inspection areas for the entry and exit of trucks.
