The project was launched in 2011 by Baoshan Iron and Steel Co, one of China's largest steelmakers, with the aim to meet increasing steel demand in the South China market. The decision was made in line with the central government's requirement for overcapacity alleviation and supply-side reform.
Baosteel has eliminated more than 20 million tons of backward production capacity in its Shanghai branch and bases in Guangdong province for the new project. Together with advanced manufacturing and environmental protection technology, the base is tasked to become a leading steel producer capable of energy saving, emission reduction, efficient production, and recycling economy.
Quantity and quality are both guaranteed at Baosteel Zhanjiang, with several awards granted for the quality of its products, including the prestigious China Construction Engineering Luban Award and National Quality Engineering Award.
Last year, its 2030 Cold Rolling No 2 Hot Galvanizing Unit manufactured extremely complicated automobile outer panels, only three months after its loaded test run.
