Gu Xingwei, head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Guangdong province, gave a detailed account regarding an implementation plan that will ensure rural revitalization advances consistently over the next three years at a news conference April 30.

The implementation plan is rich in content and specific in its measures. It clarifies the list of tasks to promote the development of agriculture, the rural areas and farmers in Guangdong this year and next. It proposes 35 key tasks in eight areas, including poverty alleviation, effective supply of important agricultural products, and improvement of rural environment and public services.

Gu also gave an authoritative overview on a promotional plan for Guangdong regarding the implementation of the "A Thousand Demonstration Villages, Renovation of Ten Thousand Villages" project. First, Guangdong will focus on deploying village cleaning operations. By the end of 2019, all administrative villages in the province will complete basic environmental remediation tasks. Second, Guangdong government will select one city, 20 counties, 120 towns and 1,260 villages to carry out demonstration programs, and focus on comprehensive environmental improvement along transport lines, boundary lines, tourist scenic spots and urban suburbs. Third, the province will construct modern agricultural industrial parks as well as new agricultural support systems, and implement important programs such as "Guangdong cuisine master", a project of cultivating traditional Cantonese cuisine chefs.

Guangdong has implemented many policies and measures to promote rural revitalization since last year. The provincial finance department has invested 160 billion yuan ($23.65 billion) over 10 years to promote the rural living environment and infrastructure. In 2018, the province invested 61.68 billion yuan in rural revitalization, a year-on-year increase of 125.9 percent.
