Zhanjiang Customs aid lychee exports

(chinadaily.com.cn) Update:2019-05-07

Eighty-three tons of fresh lychees passed inspections at Zhanjiang Customs on May 7 and were on its way to the US.

This is the first batch of lychees to be exported overseas this year from the western part of Guangdong province, which is a major lychee producing area in China.

To boost the development of the lychee industry in Zhanjiang and Maoming, as well as to cooperate with enterprises in its efforts to expand to overseas markets, Zhanjiang Customs launched a special supervision and review mechanism on the production, management, and epidemic prevention of lychees, strengthening efforts to ensure all export products can be traced to their sources.

The lychees came from Liangdong town, Lianjiang in Zhanjiang. The town is a major lychee plantation and boasts 60,000 mu (4,000 hectares) of lychee trees, accounting for 50 percent of Lianjiang's total plantation area.
