Guangzhou contestants win 3 golds at B&R skills event

During the Belt and Road International Skills Competition held in Chongqing municipality, the Guangzhou delegation pocketed three gold medals and a silver medal, ranking first among all cities in China.

The Guangzhou young technicians, Di Zixi, Wen Caiyun, and Chen Zifeng, won the championship in fine woodworking, fashion technique, and masonry projects. Tang Yun won second place in the health and social care event.

The Belt and Road International Skills Competition is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China (MHRSS), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), and the Chongqing municipal people's government. The event took place at the Chongqing International Expo Center from May 25 to 31.

The competition is not only an important achievement of the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, but also a world skills competition hosted by China with the most foreign countries and total contestants participating.

The competition set up 18 events, including those for electronic technology, automotive technology, electrical installations, fashion technology, and water treatment technology. It also hosted special stunt skills demonstration activities, as well as an equipment and technology exhibition for enterprises.

Nearly 700 artisans hailing from 44 countries and regions joined in the competition, which was watched by more than 50,000 people.

To date, three technician colleges in Guangzhou have been included in the Establishment of 10 High-Level Technician Colleges initiative in Guangdong province. There are a total of 27 technical colleges and universities in the city with 105,300 students, and the employment rate is over 98 percent. Technical education in the southern Chinese metropolis is at the forefront of the country.
