Guangdong Modern Dance Company, a troupe based in Guangzhou, staged a grand show in Lisbon, Portugal on June 1 to mark the celebration of 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Portugal.

They performed the work Sumeru, which is based on traditional Chinese culture and Buddhist imagery. Sumeru means that the smallest thing in the world can contain the largest thing. The performance is a game of physical interactions, gradually disclosing a world full of delicate, layered, and ever changing connections and relationships through the dancers' fluid and intriguing movements.
