The opening concert of the second international music festival of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held on Oct 8 at Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou, Guangdong province.

The music festival, organized by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Education and Arts Development Alliance, has been included as one of the 11 events of the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival, which opened on June 24 in Guangzhou.

During this year's culture and arts festival, a total of 31 high-level concerts will be staged from June to December in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, gathering a variety of performers that include world's famous musicians, international prestigious art groups, and emerging local artists.

The opening concert, conducted by Lyu Jia, artistic director of the National Centre for the Performing Arts, showcased 15 famous music pieces from home and abroad like Under the Lion Rock.

"This year's music festival has put more efforts in highlighting distinctive Lingnan characteristics and the elements of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao compared with the previous one," said Cai Qiaozhong, president of Xinghai Conservatory of Music.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Education and Arts Development Alliance was set up in 2017, led by Xinghai Conservatory of Music.

"The alliance has been actively promoting the cooperation and talent cultivation among colleges and universities in the Greater Bay Area," added Cai.

Ye Xiaogang, artistic director of the music festival, said that he hopes every participant of the event can feel the spiritual exchanges and cultural integration brought by music. "The music festival has served as a bridge for communication and exchanges," said Ye.
