The Consulate General of the State of Qatar in Guangzhou held an official reception to celebrate the National Day of the State of Qatar at Four Season Hotel on December 11th.

Yuan Baocheng, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC of Guangdong and Ali Ghanem Al-Hajri, Qatar's General Consul in Guangzhou and officials from Guangdong as well as other countries and regions, attended the reception.

Yuan Baocheng said Guangdong and Qatar have enjoyed ever-growing interactions and cooperation. "Last year, Guangdong-Qatar trade reached 9.662 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 16.35 percent," said Yuan, "the direct flight between Guangzhou and Doha as well as the mutual visa-exemption agreement between China and Qatar have furthered Guangdong-Qatar exchanges and cooperation."

Yuan added that Guangdong is vigorously developing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and supporting Shenzhen to build the demonstration pilot zone. "We are ready to work with Qatar in energy, trade, infrastructure, investment and 5G under the Belt and Road Initiative and the Qatar National Vision 2030."

Ali Ghanem Al-Hajri said Qatar is one of the first countries to join the Belt and Road Initiative and has been working closely with China in various fields within the Initiative. "The trade volume between China and Qatar during the years of 2018 and 2019 increased 13.5 billions USD ,30 percent compared to the same period in 2017. We value China's efforts to enhance the development of mutual relations for the interests of the two countries and the world."

In addition, the Consulate also launched a picture exhibition on Qatar's Hunting scenes by Falcon and the book, The Sun Fleet which is written by Ali Ghanem Al-Hajri on the Chinese diplomatic master "Zheng He" during the reception.
