An investment briefing on Japanese companies entering the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held in Foshan, South China's Guangdong province on Aug 6.

It mainly focused on introducing the investment environment and key industrial carriers in Foshan, as well as held an online and offline signing ceremony for four Sino-Japanese cooperation projects.

The four projects were the merger and restructuring project of Foshan Fengfu Autoparts Co Ltd, the second phase project of AGC Automotive (Foshan) Co Ltd, the third factory project of Honda Auto Supplies Guangdong Co Ltd, and the Shunde Sino-Japanese Science and Technology Industrial Park project. They possess a total investment of about 1 billion yuan ($143.69 million).

Qiao Yu, deputy mayor of Foshan, said that Foshan is making great efforts to promote the high-quality development of its manufacturing industry and is focusing on the development of industries like equipment manufacturing, automobiles and new energy, as well as electronic information.

Most of the industries are competitive industries in Japan, and related Japanese enterprises are also seeking overseas opportunities, creating great potential for cooperation between Foshan and Japan, added Qiao.

Wu Huiying, deputy director of the Foshan bureau of commerce, exprssed hopes that Foshan's determination and confidence will attract Japanese investment through this conference, increase the popularity and influence of Foshan in Japan, as well as enhance the attractiveness of Foshan to Japanese-funded enterprises.

Representatives of enterprises attending the conference said that this event has built a communication platform and expanded areas of cooperation for enterprises from Foshan and Japan, as well as expanded Foshan's influence in opening up internationally.

In recent years, a growing number of Japanese enterprises have chosen to invest in Foshan, In the first half of 2020, the actual foreign investment from Japan in Foshan reached 221 million yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 144.6 percent. The total import and export value was 12.87 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 14.8 percent.
