Guangdong leads nation in consumption-led poverty alleviation
About 59.1 billion yuan ($9.03 billion) worth of products related to poverty alleviation in the central and western parts of the country were sold in Guangdong province in the past three years.
The January-to-November period this year alone saw 35.2 billion yuan worth of such products consumed in Guangdong, said Gu Xingwei, director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, at a press conference in Guangzhou on Dec 9.

In its poverty alleviation work, Guangdong took the initiative in the country of establishing a market in Guangzhou specifically for such products, Gu said.
A provincial-level work team dedicated to relieving poverty through consumption has also been in place, with month-long activities organized every year for promoting such consumption, Gu added.
