The Foshan's Commendation Meeting for Fighting against the COVID-19 Pandemic was held in the Auditorium of the Foshan Municipal Government Organs on Dec 10 to commend Foshan's individuals and collectives that greatly contributed to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Lu Yi, Party secretary of Foshan, attended the meeting and delivered a speech, While Zhu Wei, mayor of Foshan, presided over the meeting. 

The meeting officially began in earnest at 3 pm. After singing the national anthem, the audience members stood in silence to mourn the martyrs and compatriots who passed away in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cai Jiahua, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Foshan Municipal Committee and deputy mayor of Foshan, announced the Decision of the CPC Foshan Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Foshan Municipality to Commend Foshan Advanced Individuals and Collectives in Fighting against the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Decision to Commend Foshan Outstanding CPC Members and Advanced Grassroots CPC Organizations in Foshan. Government leaders presented awards to the commended representatives.

A total of 373 people were awarded the title of Advanced Individual in Fighting against the COVID-19 Pandemic in Foshan and 125 collectives were honored the title of Advanced Collective in Fighting against the COVID-19 Pandemic in Foshan.

On behalf of the CPC Foshan Municipal Committee, the Foshan municipal government, and Foshan citizens, Lu extended a warm congratulations and great respect to the people awarded as advanced individuals.

Lu noted that the virus came suddenly and menacingly. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee centered around Chinese President Xi Jinping, and in accordance with the unified deployment of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Government, the CPC Foshan Municipal Committee and the Foshan government quickly took measures to fight against the pandemic.

Lu emphasized that "great struggles create great spirits, and great spirits guide great victories." Standing at the historical intersection of the Two Centenary Goals, the whole city must unify its thoughts and actions with the CPC Central Committee's scientific judgments of the current situation, unify with the CPC Central Committee's major decisions and deployments, as well as cherish and vigorously promote the great anti-COVID-19 pandemic spirit, coordinate pandemic prevention and control measures with economic and social development, ensure the successful completion of the goals and tasks of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2015-20), and lay a solid foundation to start the upcoming 14th Five-Year Plan (2020-25), he added.

Zhu stressed that all levels and departments in Foshan should keep Xi Jinping's thoughts on socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era in mind, earnestly study and implement the spirit of the meeting, as well as make greater contributions for Guangdong to take the lead in the country in the new journey of comprehensively building a socialist modern country and in creating new achievements.
