S China's Guangdong sets GDP growth target of 6% for 2021
Guangdong province, an economic powerhouse in South China, has set a target of achieving more than 6 percent in GDP growth in 2021, according to Ma Xingrui, the provincial governor.
"The quality of Guangdong's economy has been greatly improved, following its development of technological innovation and construction of a series of large infrastructural projects within the Guangdong -Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area," Ma said in his provincial government work report during the annual session of the local people's congress.
Guangdong registered 2.3 percent of its GDP growth to surpass 11 trillion yuan ($1.7 trillion) in 2020, despite the global COVID -19 pandemic that has brought about challenges to its economy, especially the province's foreign trade, Ma said.
The province's economy grew by an average rate of 6 percent from 2015 to 2020, according to Ma.
