Ji Hua Laboratory (Advanced Manufacturing Science and Technology Guangdong Laboratory) is one of the first four provincial laboratories to be initiated by the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong Provincial Government.

Ji Hua Laboratory is located at the center of Sanlong Bay Hi-Tech Innovation Cluster in Foshan, at the junction of Guangzhou and Foshan, 13 kilometers away from Guangdong provincial government and 12 kilometers away from Foshan municipal government. The lab covers 1,000 mu (0.67 sq km); 240 mu for scientific research, and 760 mu for a long-term plan to build an industrial base. The total investment for the first five-year construction period amounts to 5.5 billion yuan ($851.95 million).

Ji Hua Laboratory is at the frontier of global science and technology and the forefront of China’s national economy. It gathers and integrates foreign and domestic innovations and resources to develop first-class, modern technology and a high-end, international, strategic innovation platform, all focused around Guangdong and China’s major needs. It stands tall and firm in both applied technology and basic research, being fully open, people-oriented and focusing on practical applications. The lab initially focused on six study directions including optical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronic science and technology, computer science and technology, materials science and engineering and biomedical engineering. It also determined eight research areas including robotics and related key technology, semiconductor technology and equipment, high-end medical equipment manufacturing, additive manufacturing, research on new materials and devices, micro-nano manufacturing, and more.

Ji Hua Laboratory will build a powerful scientific research team composed of top experts and talents. This team will achieve numerous scientific breakthroughs, establish a globally influential scientific institution, and strive to become a leading national laboratory in the field.
