The Guangdong New Lighting Source Industrial Base was established in 2010, with an overall planned area of 1,000 mu (404.71 hectares), of which 437 mu was allocated for the first phase. As of December 2018, the useable industrial area in the base has reached 800,000 square meters, including 80,000 square meters for commercial buildings, 670,000 square meters for industrial buildings, and 50,000 square meters for living facilities.

As of December 2018, the base has more than 154 settled enterprises - including the Guangdong Solid State Lighting Industry Innovation Incubator (GSSLIII), CEPREI Laboratory (Foshan), China Solid State Lighting Alliance and Guangdong Solid State Lighting Industry Innovation Center, and others - covering incubation and cultivation, testing and pilot testing, technology research and development, equipment manufacturing, public services and product applications.These enterprises have gathered more than 4,000 talents with a variety of skills.

The base actively promotes the industrialization of research institutions and universities such as the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Shantou University, and actively explores cross-border applications in the third-generation semiconductor and intelligent equipment industries.

At the same time, the base is also strengthening the construction of a state-level technology business incubator, the GSSLIII, and focuses on introducing innovative and entrepreneurial teams in advantageous fields such as semiconductor materials, optoelectronic devices and their applications.

1.Guangdong Solid State Lighting Industry Innovation Incubator

Guangdong Solid State Lighting Industry Innovation Incubator (GSSLIII) was established in June 2010. It is a demonstration project for financial, technological and industrial integration, funded and built by the Foshan National High-tech Industrial Development Zone and the Public Assets Management Committee of Shishan Town. Its main purpose is the incubation of the whole LED lighting industry at home and abroad. GSSLIII has an incubation area of 13,000 square meters. Relying on the policy resources of the provincial, municipal, and district governments, and supported by the high-end industry and complete industrial chain facilities of Guangdong New Lighting Source Industrial Base, it is a industrial service platform for technological innovation incubation.

After years of development, GSSLIII has built an integrated service model covering technological transfer, investment and financing, professional development and rapid business incubation. On the basis of this service model, GSSLIII has also built various platforms to serve enterprises.

2. Foshan Nanhai CAS Semiconductor Technology Innovation Center

Foshan Nanhai Semiconductor Technology Innovation Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was established in December 2017. It is CAS's first cross-industry innovation platform for semiconductor technology, and was jointly established by the Foshan National High-tech Industrial Development Zone and the Institute of Semiconductors, CAS. The center focuses on innovative applications in the fields of semiconductor materials, optoelectronic devices, semiconductor lighting, advanced lasers, etc., using CAS system-related innovative technological achievements and platform resources. It aims to boost the application and industrialization of the national-level innovative scientific research achievements of the Foshan National High-tech Industrial Development Zone; promote the cultivation and introduction of local corporate talents and the construction of R&D institutions; and promote industrial growth and innovative development.

Through a diverse range of services such as technology transfer, talent introduction, project agglomeration, corporate services, technological testing, achievement transformation, industry-university-research cooperation and more, the center carries out industry-university-research cooperation with Foshan National High-tech Industrial Development Zone enterprises in the fields of intelligent manufacturing, optoelectronic display, and biomedicine. Through this work, it seeks to promote national-level innovative scientific research results applied and industrialized in the zone, the cultivation and introduction of enterprises and talents, and the upgrading and innovative development of the zone.
