This laboratory is a municipal public institution which was listed on November 21, 2019, and officially opened on December 23, 2019.

The laboratory is located in Danzao Hydrogen Valley and Southern Park, and covers an area of 60,000 m2. Two R&D centers (containing 10 specialized laboratories) and one test and analysis center (containing three sub-centers) will be built, with 300 researchers (of whom 100 will be permanent staff). Through the research and development of key hydrogen production technologies, fuel cell materials and integration, fuel cell power assembly, intelligent networks and hydrogen safety, it will form a platform for hydrogen energy technology innovation, talent cultivation and industry growth, and promote hydrogen energy production in Guangdong.

The laboratory is committed to the innovative development of new energy and new materials such as hydrogen energy and fuel cells.

Over the next ten years, five centers will be built in three phases. These include a global R&D center for hydrogen energy and new materials, a national center for hydrogen energy and new material technology transfer and radiation, an international exchange center for high-end talents in the field of hydrogen energy and new materials, a national innovation and entrepreneurship center for university students majoring in hydrogen energy and new materials, and an incubation center for high-tech enterprises in the field of hydrogen energy and new materials.

Scope of the business:

(1) Strengthen basic and applied basic research and explore new ideas, new methods, new principles, and new knowledge;

(2) Focus on major national and provincial science and technology projects, organize industry-university-research cooperation, and make breakthroughs in key common technologies;

(3) Promote the research and applications of modern engineering technologies, accelerate technological development and integration, equipment development, and large-scale applications;

(4) Promote the incubation and transfer of scientific and technological achievements;

(5) Attract and cultivate high-end scientific and technological talents, strategic scientific and technological talents, scientific and technological leaders, young scientific and technological talents and high-level innovation teams;

(6) Undertake other tasks commissioned by the government.
