Maoming longan boasts history of over 2,000 years

Longan has a history of more than 2,000 years in Maoming. In the Western Han Dynasty (206BC - 24AD), longan in Shatian town, Gaozhou county-level city, Maoming was used as a tribute to the emperor.

Gaozhou is not only the birthplace of the world's most well-preserved longan, but also "the hometown of China's gold medal longan".

Gaozhou has a subtropical monsoon climate, producing longan with pulp that is delicious and tender. In the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Gaozhou processed longan into dried longan pulp, which was deeply loved by people. Now, Gaozhou's dried longan pulp has become a geographical indication protection product.

Longan has a long tradition of being used as gifts in Maoming. It can not only be made into dried longan pulp, but can also be made into snacks, porridge, and jelly.

In Gaozhou's Chuliang village, there is a longan tree that is over 100 years old, which blooms and bears fruit every year. Now, Chuliang longan has become the largest longan variety in the world. In 2019, the world's Chuliang longan planting area exceeded 2.5 million mu (166,667 hectares).
