Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical's transformation to focus on green development has found success in recent years.

The company is a joint-stock enterprise founded by China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), a national super-large state-owned enterprise.

In 2014, the largest coal-to-hydrogen plant in China made by Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical was completed and put into use, marking the company's transformation from the petrochemical industry to the coal chemical industry.

In 2018, it produced National 6 gasoline and put it on the Guangdong market, becoming the largest clean energy production base in South China.

In 2019, it was rated as one of the first green enterprises of Sinopec.

In August 2021, its 100,000 metric tons/year high-end carbon material complex produced qualified products, which has provided valuable experience for China's production of high-quality needle coke technology.

In 2021, Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical was rated as an advanced unit of energy conservation and environmental protection of Sinopec, awarded the title of A-level green enterprise of Sinopec, as well as continued to be awarded as an environmental protection integrity enterprise in Guangdong province.

The company has grown from an oil shale plant to the country's first 10 million-ton oil refining production base, as well as from the country's first million-ton ethylene production base to the largest domestic refining and chemical enterprise. It has contributed more than 500 billion yuan ($75.15 billion) in profits and taxes, with its tax payments ranking among the top enterprises in Guangdong.
