Maoming fresh lychee sales expected to reach 8b yuan

In 2021, Maoming's fresh lychee sales amounted to 7.12 billion yuan ($1.06 billion), while this year they are expected to reach 8 billion yuan.

"The price of lychees this year has gone from 13-14 yuan per pound to 9-10 yuan, meaning the price is stable," said Ge Zhiyong, a lychee seller in Pingshan town, Gaozhou county-level-city, Maoming.

This year, more than 15,000 lychee trees were customized in Maoming, with the price of customized lychees more than doubling the ordinary price.

Maoming has more than 3,600 e-commerce companies and more than 8,000 WeChat businesses that sell lychees. Li Taizan, a lychee grower in Hejiang town, Huazhou city, is very busy on June 18 every year due to an e-commerce discount activity. Seventy percent of his lychees are sold on e-commerce platforms.

Thanks to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Maoming lychees have been exported to 20 countries and regions in Europe, North America and Southeast Asia this year. As of June 23, Maoming has exported 2,111 metric tons of lychees in 168 shipments this year, worth 48.955 million yuan. At present, the per capita disposable income of Maoming lychee industrial park is 21 percent higher than the city's average.
