On Nov 12, Huang Hongchang, an athlete on the provincial weightlifting team that also attends Maoming Sports School, won a gold medal in the 61 kilograms class with a jerk of 168 kg at the 2022 National Men's Weightlifting Championship and National Men's Championships, ranking third with a total score of 291kg.

On the first day of the competition, Huang was among the 13 athletes to participate in the 61 kg class competition, which included eight participants that had registered a total score of 300 kg or more previously.

In the snatch competition, Huan successfully began at 123 kg. However, he failed in his second and third attempts to lift 128 kg, so his snatch score was fixed at 123 kg.

In the clean and jerk competition, which is Huang's specialty, he succeeded at 168 kg during his second attempt. His third attempt to lift 175kg to win the overall gold medal failed, but he still managed to win the gold medal in the jerk completion and the bronze medal in the overall score competition.

Maoming weightlifting team coach Li Ligang noted that Huang trains very hard and during his training, Huang has surpassed the world record several times.
