In Maoming, there is a unique New Year custom known as "Nianli." Every year, as the Chinese Lunar New Year festivities linger, a series of New Year celebrations unfold one after another.

The "walking around the well" activity takes place on Feb 18 in Heshui village, Xinpo town, Maonan district. In the Maonan area, there are also Nuo dance performances, martial arts, and lion dance performances.

The "fire dragon" activity will be held from Feb 3 to 4 of the lunar calendar in Shuidong Peng village, Dianbai district. This activity involves making a giant dragon-shaped lantern to dispel bad luck and usher in the new year.

In Danchang village, Danchang town, a human dragon dance performance is scheduled from July 14 to 16 of the Lunar calendar. Zhuangdong village will host the Makeup Spring Temple Fair from Jan 14 to 16 of the Lunar calendar.

The New Year activities in Gaozhou city are equally splendid. There are large-scale flower boat and torch procession activities. In Fenjie town, there are dragon dances and color-floating activities.

Xinyi city also has unique New Year activities such as lantern festivals and color-floating parades. Huazhou city hosts temple fairs and dragon dance activities.

These activities allow people to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year while experiencing the rich local culture and folk customs.
