Cargo throughput at Zhanjiang port hit a record high of 100 million tons, as a batch of iron ore was discharged at the No 300 berth on Dec 22.
Zhanjiang Port processed its 801,400th 20-foot sea container on Nov 22, surpassing its annual goal 39 days before the end of the year.
Zhanjiang Port is expected to process 900,000 sea containers this year, followed by 1 million in 2018, thanks to a recently granted 22-million-yuan ($3.31 million) government subsidy.
Construction of the cargo-passenger ro-ro (roll on/roll off) terminal of Xuwen Port is 35 percent complete with more than 200 staffs working around the clock.
The total import and export value of Zhanjiang reached 22.51 billion yuan ($3.4 billion) from January to August, up 28.2 percent year-on-year, according to the latest figures from Zhanjiang Customs.
A total of 219 ships from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member nations entered China through the Zhanjiang Port in the past eight months, up 6.5 percent year-on-year.
Cargo throughput at Zhanjiang port reached 153.8 million tons in the first half of 2017, an increase of 14.6 percent year-on-year.
Amid rapid economic expansion, infrastructure construction in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province, achieved further progress in the first half of 2017.
