Maoming issues action plan for 5G industry development

Maoming in South China's Guangdong province recently issued a three-year action plan for the development of the 5G industry from 2020 to 2022.

The plan aims to promote the construction of the 5G network in the city, accelerate the development of the 5G industry, foster new economic growth drivers, as well as boost high-quality economic development.

The action plan divides the development of the 5G industry in Maoming into three stages. In the first three quarters of 2020, the city plans to build 1,513 new 5G base stations and achieve 5G continuous coverage in its main urban area and most of its counties, completing the annual construction goal assigned by the province.

By the end of 2021, the city will finish the installation of 1,905 new 5G base stations, realize the continuous coverage of 5G networks in its main urban area and all its counties, as well as promote the commercial use of 5G application technology.

By the end of 2022, Maoming will build 1,880 new 5G base stations, and the total number of 5G base stations in the city will reach 4,873. It will also realize 5G continuous coverage and commercial use around the whole city, as well as form an advanced 5G industrial agglomeration area and a 5G fusion application area.

The plan will promote the development of the 5G industry in 13 aspects, including 5G plus smart manufacturing, 5G plus smart agriculture, 5G plus smart cultural tourism, and 5G plus smart education.

Maoming will promote the application of 5G technology in industrial manufacturing, as well as establish an automated industrial control system based on 5G industrial internet. Efforts will also be made to introduce 5G product manufacturers, as well as make advancements in the semiconductor, 5G chip, and core network industries.
