Maoming's consumption-driven poverty alleviation month and the Maoming agricultural products sales exhibition kicked off in Guangzhou, capital city of Guangdong province, on Sept 17 and will last until Sept 19.
Themed around "promoting poverty alleviation through consumption and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects," the activity aims to promote Maoming's agricultural products to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area market, increase the incomes of impoverished people through consumption-driven poverty alleviation, as well as help the province's fight against poverty.
About 30 enterprises are displaying their featured agricultural products at the sales exhibition and are taking part in the promotional activities.
More than 30 purchasing enterprises were invited to the activity, 10 of which have reached cooperation with Maoming enterprises and signed purchase contracts on site, involving a total contract amount of more than 150 million yuan ($22.16 million).

In recent years, Maoming has implemented various measures, including developing characteristic industries, issuing supportive policies, as well as promoting poverty alleviation through consumption and employment to advance its poverty alleviation efforts and help increase impoverished people's incomes, achieving significant results.
All of the 66,860 registered impoverished households, with a total of 155,709 people, have met the standards to be lifted out of poverty by June, as well as all 180 provincial poverty-stricken villages in the city.
By the end of August, the city has sold 33,932 "love cards" to promote poverty alleviation through consumption, as well as carried out more than 400 sales activities. A total of 11,500 metric tons of poverty alleviation products were sold, valued at 160 million yuan.
Maoming has also introduced the Guangzhou-based e-commerce platform, which helps the city carry out poverty alleviation through e-commerce in its 300 administrative villages. To date, e-commerce has helped boost sales of agricultural products by 50 million yuan and increased the incomes of 6,500 impoverished people.
