In recent years, Maoming has been devoted to developing its green industries. It has formed a certain scale of characteristic industrial chains integrating production, supply, and sales, advancing the high-quality development of the city's ecological economy.

By the end of 2019, the forest land in Maoming reached 7.97 million mu (531,333.33 hectares), and the forest growing stock was 30.58 million cubic meters, with a forest coverage rate of 55.8 percent. The city's timber output in 2019 totaled 343,700 cu m.

To date, there are more than 20 wood processing enterprises above designated size in Maoming, with an annual timber processing capacity of over 1 million metric tons. In 2019, the city had an output of 333,200 cu m in fiberboard, 253,700 cu m in chipboard, and 89,700 cu m in plywood.

The main processed products of bamboo in Maoming are weaving arts and crafts, with Xinyi, a county-level city in Maoming, as the main production area.

Xinyi currently has a bamboo plantation area of more than 400,000 mu, as well as over 1,000 bamboo weaving enterprises, which have a total annual output value of more than 7 billion yuan ($1.03 billion). Over 100,000 households in Xinyi are engaged in bamboo weaving, with an average household income of more than 40,000 yuan.

Bamboo weaving products of Xinyi are all exported to overseas countries and regions, with the export volume accounting for nearly 30 percent of the nation's total. Xinyi has become the country's largest bamboo weaving base.

Maoming is also the largest fruit production base in China. In 2019, the cultivation area of forest-related fruit in the city totaled more than 3.59 million mu, with a fruit output of 3.96 million tons. The fruit industry accounts for 23 percent of the city's agricultural added value.

Lychees are one of the main cultivated fruits in Maoming. The city currently has a lychee planting area of 1.36 million mu. In 2019, the output of lychees in the city was 438,200 tons, with a total output value of 5.13 billion yuan. The yield of lychees this year exceeded 500,000 tons.
