Maonan Petrochemical Industrial Park in Maoming, which used to be an urban-rural fringe area that was composed of polluting enterprises, abandoned factories, villages, and wasteland, has developed into an industrial hub in recent years.

In 2013, the relocation project of the oil refinery of Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical Company was advanced. Maonan district put forward the idea of building a petrochemical industry processing base with high standards on the vacated land after relocation.

More than 10 major industrial projects, including the antioxidant project of Guangdong CPD-CHEM New Material Technology Co Ltd, the dewaxing, deoiling, cutting, and refining joint project of Maoming Haihe Petrochemical Co Ltd, the ethylene project of Maoming Tianyuan Petrochemical Co Ltd, as well as the biodiesel project of Maoming Hongyu Energy Technology Co Ltd, have been put into production at the petrochemical industrial park in the past few years.

In the first three quarters of this year, the industrial output value of the petrochemical industrial park reached 6.46 billion yuan ($985.44 million), while its industrial added value was 700 million yuan, an increase of 9.3 percent from the same period of the previous year.

The industrial park finished a total investment of 470 million yuan in the first nine months of this year, increasing by 21.8 percent year-on-year. Its tax revenue generated totaled 168 million yuan, up 58 percent.

The layout and development of the Maonan Petrochemical Industrial Park is of great significance to adjust the economic structure, change the development mode, as well as upgrade industrial industries in Maoming.

"The industrial park is fully promoting the construction of a large number of projects, such as the high-end carbon material project of Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical Company, as well as the waste oil and waste oil sludge recycling project of Germany-based ALBA Group," said Che Shiheng, director of the district's science, industry, and commerce bureau.

"It is expected that the annual output value of the industrial park will exceed 10 billion yuan in the next two years," added Che.
