GBA e-sports contest opens in Maoming

The semifinal of the 2020 Greater Bay Area Electronic Sports Open kicked off at M1 Junmeng E-sports Hall in Maoming on Dec 6, and will last until Dec 10.

A total of 60 teams from Hong Kong, Macao, and 10 cities in Guangdong province are competing for the finals through both online and offline competitions.

The e-sports event is being guided by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation, and is being jointly hosted by the Guangdong Esports Association, the Esports Association Hong Kong, the Macau E-sports Federation, as well as the publicity department of the CPC Tianhe district committee of Guangzhou.

It is composed of five competition items, namely Honor of Kings, League of Legends, Overwatch, FIFA Online 4, and Identity V. It has attracted 387 teams and nearly 2,000 e-sports players since the event opened in October.

Developing the e-sports industry is conducive to the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries in western Guangdong, the promotion of the city's image, and the creation of a new industrial driving force.
