Incomes of Maoming local grow robustly in 2016-20

The per capita disposable income of residents in Maoming reached 24,600.4 yuan ($3,793.72) in 2020, an increase of 7,753.1 yuan over the average income of 16,847.3 yuan in 2015, with an average annual growth rate of 7.9 percent for the period.

The per capita disposable income of urban residents in Maoming increased by 9,336.2 yuan during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), with an average annual growth rate of 7.5 percent, while that of rural residents grew by 6,397.2 yuan, increasing by 8.2 percent annually. 

The per capita consumption of Maoming residents increased from 12,427.5 yuan in 2015 to 17,014.9 yuan in 2020, with an average annual growth rate of 6.5 percent. Their Engel coefficient decreased from 40.5 percent in 2015 to 39.5 percent in 2020.

During the past five years, Maoming's people have been more and more willing to spend money on children's education, sports and fitness, travel, physical examinations and healthcare.

The per capita expenditure on the medical care of Maoming residents increased by 9.4 percent on average annually in the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), while that on transportation and communications increased by 8.8 percent annually -- with spending on education, culture and entertainment up by 5.1 percent on average annually.

In addition, the quality of living of Maoming's residents has also improved in the last five years. Air conditioners, mobile phones and refrigerators topped the growth in the ownership of major consumer durables by urban residents -- according to the statistics -- while air conditioners, washing machines and mobile phones were the most popular purchases for rural residents.
