With the lychee season coming to an end, the Chuliang longan has gradually ripened and entered the market.

Chuliang longan is a national geographic indication (GI) protection product from Gaozhou, which is a county-level city in Maoming. GI refers to a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation of that origin, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization.

The longan has unique characteristics that consist of thin skin, thick meat, a small core, crisp texture and and a sweet fragrance, hence it's popular among customers. Gaozhou has vast longan plantations and the highest output value around the country.

Gaozhou boasts a time-honored history of longan plantations. Gaozhou longans have a countrywide reputation for being the first to be planted, the best in quality, the highest yield and the strongest in the industry. It won the gold medal at the first China International Agriculture Expo, as well as titles like the "national excellent longan product."
