The 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for the quality development of the manufacturing industry in Guangdong province was recently issued, which gave star ratings to mark the importance of 20 strategic industrial clusters in 21 cities in the province's regional layout.

The green petrochemical and modern agriculture and food industrial clusters in Maoming received three stars, and Maoming will be the core city of the two industrial clusters in the province's layout.

The advanced material and biomedicine and health industrial clusters in Maoming were rated as two stars, and Maoming will be the key city of the two industrial clusters in the province's layout.

The industrial clusters of automobiles, modern lighting and textiles, safety emergency and environmental protection as well as precision machinery and instruments received one star. Maoming became a common city of the four industrial clusters in the province's layout.

The plan also put forward that the added value of the manufacturing sector should account for more than 30 percent of the province's GDP by 2025.

Maoming, centered around Sinopec Maoming's oil refining and ethylene projects, will develop a series of featured products like high-quality refined oil, lubricating oil, organic raw materials, synthetic resin, and liquid wax. The city will also develop downstream intensive processing industries like new chemical materials and specialty chemicals.

With a growing hydrogen energy industrial base, Maoming plans to build a comprehensive industrial base covering hydrogen energy, fuel cells, and fuel cell vehicles.

The city, with a relatively developed plastics industry, also plans to develop various types of high-performance and high value-added plastic products.

Construction of the LNG receiving stations in Maoming is designed to optimize the layout of the natural gas infrastructure in the province, and the comprehensive solid waster utilization project will also be promoted in the city.
