Gaozhou, a county-level city in Maoming, made the list of national agricultural modernization demonstration zones recently issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

Among the 100 counties and county-level cities on the list, four were in Guangdong province, including Gaozhou.

As a national grain high-yield demonstration city and a fruit and animal husbandry strong city, Gaozhou has formed a distinct industrial system dominated by fruits such as lychee, longan and banana and supplemented by livestock and aquatic products. The total output value of the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishing industries in Gaozhou is 27.2 billion yuan ($4.26 billion), leading the province for many years.

Gaozhou has also taken the lead in China in modernizing its agricultural and rural areas and has become a national digital rural pilot and agricultural machinery safety demonstration county. It has nine industrial platforms above the provincial level.

Gaozhou is currently focusing on developing agricultural facilities, integration and digitalization as it seeks to become an agricultural modernization demonstration zone.
