Yuanba village in Maoming made the list of 50 demonstration villages to boost rural revitalization by developing tourism, being one of the two Guangdong villages on the list.
It is home to a litchi park that has been existing since the Sui and Tang dynasties (581-907) and has a special agricultural product area as well as eight registered trademarks related to its litchi.
Wu Senming, the Party chief of Yuanba village, said that in the past, the infrastructure in Yuanba village was rather shabby. The roads were so narrow that traffic jams were frequent during tourist seasons. The litchi industrial structure and sales channels were also lacking.
In order to boost rural revitalization, Yuanba village encourages residents to develop rural tourism and organize live broadcast activities to sell litchi. It also cultivates leading agricultural enterprises and professional farmers' cooperatives, and allows leading enterprises to promote litchi production, sales, and brand building upgrades.
In 2020, Yuanba village received more than one million tourists. When the litchi became ripe, there were more than 30,000 tourists every day. The industrial output value was 380 million yuan ($59.5 million), and the annual per capita income of farmers was 58,000 yuan.
