Maoming's Binhai New Area has been making the supply of centralized tap water a key livelihood project in May 2021. It spent more than five months installing water pipes and meters in villages for 26,309 rural households and 128,000 people.
Liantou village in Diancheng town got its first-ever supply of tap water as a result of this centralized water supply project. In the past, villagers in Liantou had to travel several kilometers to Liantou ridge to obtain water from a well. "Even if you spend money to dig a well and install water pipes to your home, it will cost a pretty penny," said villager Wu Guangxiong.

The construction team visited Liantou village at the end of September. It took them less than two weeks to install water pipes and water meters for all households in the village.
In this centralized water supply project, the water supply pipe network is about 515 km in length and supplies about 128,000 people. Nearby laborers were participating in the project, creating employment for 6,178 locals.

Maoming's Binhai New Area used a smart water platform in this project. Villagers can use the smart water WeChat applet to carry out consultations, payments and maintenance.
