Maoming has been promoting the construction of railways in recent years. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), 55 kilometers of new railway were built and 78 km were electrified. It currently has 319 km of operating railway, including 72 km of high-speed railway.

The Shenzhen-Jiangmen section of the Shenzhen-Maoming High-Speed Railway opened in 2018. A Maoming resident named He said that in the past, he had to take a five-hour train to visit his son in Guangzhou. Now, the train takes just two hours.

Improved transportation in Maoming promotes the development of tourism, and with the opening of high-speed trains, more tourists from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area are traveling there.

On July 1, 2018, there were a total of 13,000 passengers at Maoming Station. During the Spring Festival holiday in 2021, 360,000 passengers passed through the station.

The Yunfu-Maoming Expressway opened to traffic on June 11, 2021, leading to the economic development of the western mountainous area of Guangdong. It was the first expressway to open in the eastern mountainous area of Xinyi city.

It led to the development of economic and trade exchanges in areas along the route, reduced transportation and logistics costs for local agricultural products, and further promoted the development of local natural resources, characteristic agriculture and eco-tourism.
