1st session of 13th Maoming Municipal People's Congress opens

The first session of the 13th Maoming Municipal People's Congress was opened on Jan 10 and 426 of the total 466 deputies attended. Yuan Gujie, Party secretary of Maoming hosted the congress and Zhuang Yuequn, mayor of Maoming made the government work report.

There are three parts in this government work report, including the review of government work in 2021, goals and main tasks for the next five years, and work plans for 2022.

Over the past five years, Maoming's comprehensive strength has improved. Maoming's GDP increased from 261.89 billion yuan ($41.23 billion) in 2016 to 350 billion yuan in 2021, with an average annual growth rate of 5 percent. Maoming also achieved success in its poverty alleviation efforts, lifting 66,000 registered impoverished households, consisting of around 154,400 people, out of poverty.

In 2021, Maoming focused on nine key tasks including a centralized rural water supply. It is estimated that its GDP will increase by more than 6 percent, the industrial added value will increase by more than 4 percent, the total retail sales of consumer goods will increase by more than 10 percent, and the public budget revenue will increase by 4 percent.

In 2021, Maoming cooperated with 11 State-owned enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area on 36 industrial projects, and built a coastal rural tourism belt featuring nine villages.

Maoming has set its goals for 2022. It aims to increase its GDP by 5.5 percent, its fixed asset investment by 6 percent, its total retail sales of consumer goods by 6.5 percent, its total import and export volume by 4 percent, its public budget revenue by 3 percent, and its consumer price index by 3 percent. It also aims to have its residents' income increase maintain pace with its economic growth, while also maintaining its registered urban unemployment rate within 3.5 percent.
