Maoming had 225 days with excellent air quality, 136 days with good air quality, and four days with mild pollution in 2021, posting an excellent air quality rate of 98.9 percent.

Compared with 2020, the urban air quality declined and the air quality composite index increased by 4.6 percent, but its level remained unchanged. The analysis of the air pollution index showed that the primary pollutant affecting Maoming's urban air quality throughout the year was ozone, followed by PM2.5.

In 2021, the annual average concentrations of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide were 11 micrograms per cubic meter and 14 micrograms per cu m respectively. The annual average concentration of PM10 was 41 micrograms/cubic meter, and the annual concentration of PM2.5 was mcg/cu m.

In terms of urban precipitation, a total of 243 precipitation samples were collected from five precipitation measurement points in Maoming in 2021, with an annual average pH value of 6.52, and no acid rain was detected. The city's pH average increased by 0.03 pH units year-on-year.

The water quality of drinking water sources in Maoming was rated well. In 2021, the four surface water sources in the urban area of Maoming achieved 100 percent water quality compliance rates. The water quality of drinking water sources remained stable and up to standard.
