The Maoming forestry bureau held an Internet+national voluntary tree planting activity at the Tabebuia chrysantha sightseeing garden on Feb 19.

The activity was devised as a public oriented interactive tree-planting platform created by Maoming to promote its innovative tree-planting methods and the normalization of voluntary tree-planting activities. People can participate in offline tree-planting and nurturing activities through online registration.

Although it was raining that day, a voluntary tree planting team comprised of more than 100 people braved the weather to dig pits with shovels and plant trees.

"Afforestation work will benefit future generations. At present, the country vigorously advocates a low-carbon life and green environmental protection measures. It is everyone's duty to participate in tree-planting activities and build a green and beautiful home together," said a volunteer participant surnamed Huang.

At present, the forest area of Maoming is 637,700 hectares, its forest volume is 31.64 million cubic meters, and it has a forest coverage rate of 55.81 percent. Sixty open parks and green spaces have been built, 89 parks at all levels have received quality improvements, while 107.54 kilometers of greenways have been built in urban and rural residential areas. The green coverage rate of the main urban area is 44.31 percent, the road greening rate is 98.23 percent, and the per capita park green space area is 18.17 square meters. As a result, Maoming has reached the National Forest City evaluation index requirements.
