To date, Maoming Open-pit Mine Ecological Park has restored about 9,000 mu (600 hectares) of green areas and planted more than 500,000 trees, with the survival rate of tree species reaching more than 85 percent.
Maoming Open-pit Mine Ecological Park is a national mine park located at the northwestern tip of Maoming's urban area. It has a planned area of 10.07 square kilometers. Previously, this park was an open pit mine. Due to mining, the environment there was heavily polluted.
In 2013, Maoming shut down all polluting enterprises in the open-pit mine and transformed the mine into an ecological park with pleasant scenery as part of its commitment to green development.
To date, 10 plantation forests have been built in the mine area. The park management office has set up a special greening group, which carries out regular plant shaping and pruning, pest and disease control, as well as fertilization as part of its daily maintenance of trees and flowers in the park, which is in accordance with greening management requirements.
