From January to September, Maoming recorded an excellent air quality rate of 97.8 percent, ranking second in Guangdong province.

In 2021, the city had an excellent air quality rate of 98.9 percent, ranking second in the province and fully completing the provincial assessment of the three binding indicators of excellent air quality rate, PM10, as well as PM2.5.

Since the launch of reform and opening up in 1978, Maoming has been gradually addressing issues like tightening resource constraints and serious environmental pollution caused by the rapid development of its heavy chemicals industry. In recent years, the city has adjusted its industrial layout to improve its ecological environment.

As of September, Maoming has built 101 sewage treatment facilities, with a treatment capacity of 662,800 metric tons per day. It has also built an urban sewage network spanning about 1,785 kilometers, achieving full coverage of domestic sewage treatment facilities.

By the end of September, Maoming's 7,899 natural villages had completed rural domestic sewage treatment, with a treatment rate of 38.01 percent. Maoming has also become one of the pilot cities in the province for domestic sewage treatment.

From January to September, the proportion of excellent surface water quality in Maoming was 90.9 percent. The water quality rate of centralized drinking water sources in the city was 100 percent, while its proportion of coastal waters with excellent water quality in the spring and summer was 100 percent.
