Maoming has 489 reservoirs with 2b cu m capacity

Maoming has 489 reservoirs, with a total capacity of 2 billion cubic meters.

Among them, there are two large reservoirs, the Gaozhou Reservoir and the Luokeng Reservoir, 12 medium-sized reservoirs, 73 small type-1 reservoirs, as well as 402 small type-2 reservoirs.

The Gaozhou Reservoir is located in northeast Gaozhou, a county-level city in Maoming, with a storage area of 1,002 square kilometers and a storage capacity of 1.15 billion cu m. It is one of the top 10 reservoirs in Guangdong province. The construction of the reservoir started on May 18, 1958 and was completed at the end of 1959.

The Luokeng Reservoir is located in Luokeng town in the northern part of Dianbai district. Built in 1960, it covers an area of more than 7,000 mu (467 hectares) and has a storage capacity of about 115 million cu m. The large reservoir is mainly used for irrigation, while also boasting power generation, flood control, and aquaculture functions.

Maoming has 1,109 ponds, of which 37 are in Maonan district, 105 are in Dianbai district, 109 are in Xinyi, 412 are in Gaocheng, 443 are in Huazhou, one is in Binhai New Area, and two are in Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone.

The city also has seven lakes, namely Xianen Lake, Beima Lake, Yingba Lake, East Lake, West Lake, Pengcun Lake, and Haoxin Lake.
