Gaozhou, a county-level city in Maoming, is Guangdong province's largest grain-growing county. Its grain area of 900,000 mu (60,000 hectares) and its grain production of 400,000 metric tons have been stable for many years, ranking first among all counties in the province. Recently, Gaozhou ushered in a bumper rice harvest.
At present, Gaozhou's autumn grain harvest is about 310,000 mu, and more than 70 percent of the rice has been harvested. Gaozhou's winter planting plan crop area is 295,000 mu, of which 177,000 mu has been planted, accounting for 60 percent of the city's plan, including 52,000 mu of winter grain.
During the critical period of autumn harvest and winter planting, Shigu town, a major grain-growing town, is currently the COVID-19 key prevention and control area for Gaozhou as some surrounding villages have been designated as high-risk areas. Although the scale of the agricultural cooperative run by Feng Qingzong is small, it has taken the initiative to shoulder the responsibilities of the local autumn harvest at this critical moment in the city's COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control efforts. To date, it has harvested more than 500 mu of rice.
