Gaozhou has topped Guangdong province in terms of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery output value among county-level cities, as well as ranked second in terms of grain production in the province among county-level cities.
Last year, Guangdong's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery output value achieved steady growth. The province's grain crops area and its cash crops area increased slightly from the previous year to 33 million mu (2.2 hectares) and 34 million mu respectively. In addition, the province's rice yield exceeded 11 million metric tons for the first time.
During that time, Gaozhou's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery output value reached 27.05 billion yuan ($3.83 billion), with Maoming's Dianbai district and Huzhou ranking second and third respectively in output value among county-level cities in the province.
Gaozhou's grain production reached 405,000 tons last year, while its fruit production topped the province's county-level cities at 1.95 million tons, accounting for 10.7 percent of the province's total output.
Its grain planting area last year totaled 906,400 mu, including 840,000 mu of rice, with an output of 390,000 tons. In June, Gaozhou Simiao Rice Industrial Park was officially included in the list of provincial modern agricultural industrial parks to be established in 2022.
According to plans, Gaozhou Simiao Rice Industrial Park will cover Shigu town, Zhenjiang town, Shatian town, and Baoguang Street, with a planting area of about 100,000 mu of Silmiao rice in the industrial park, generating an annual output of about 120,000 tons.
