In 2022, Xinyi, a county-level city in Maoming, late-planted a grain sowing area of 349 million mu (232,667 hectares), an increase of 1.82 percent over the previous year. It included a rice sowing area of 30.06 million mu.

Xinyi, in an attempt to improve its late agricultural harvest based on early planning of winter planting, sowed 0.2 million mu of winter wheat, 46,000 mu of corn, and 43,000 mu of potatoes, and now is contemplating adding more grain planning area, accelerating the planting of winter crops, strengthening their field management, and implementing winter agricultural drought and frost protection measures.

Xinyi guided its agricultural dispatch department to strengthen the collection of agricultural information, grasp the real-time progress of winter planting in its jurisdiction, and make winter planting plans to take timely and effective measures to ensure that the winter food crop area would not be less than the area in the plan issued by the city. At the same time, it had to gather weather and disaster statistics and other agricultural information in a timely way to help farmers prevent disasters and reduce losses.

On the basis of ensuring a stable grain cultivation area, Xinyi will integrate the cultivation of special vegetables and oil crops and the use of green manure. It also plans to make efforts to adjust the structure of the agricultural industry by combining various factors such as the actual local situation and farmers' farming habits and market preferences, as well as to cultivate special agricultural industries suitable for local development to promote farmers' income in multiple ways.
